On Wednesday, October 8th, the IndyBar Law Student Division hosted "Breakfast with the Bar: Criminal Law" at IU McKinney’s law library. The event provided students with the opportunity to connect with attorneys practicing in various fields related to criminal law, including prosecution, criminal defense, white collar crimes, etc.

Panelists included J.D. Bembry, Baldwin Perry & Wiley PC; Molly Crow, Marion County Public Defender Agency; Dan Cicchini, Marion County Prosecutor's Office; Shashan DeYoung, Marion County Public Defender Agency; Maria Downham, Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP; Kendal Gulbrandsen, Marion County Public Defender Agency; Ryan Mears, Marion County Prosecutor's Office; Mark Nicholson, Law Office of Mark Nicholson; Celita Scott, Marion County Prosecutor's Office; Mitch Swedarsky, Marion County Public Defender Agency; and Finis Tatum, Gordon Rees Skully Mansukhami LLP.

Attendees gained practical insights into careers in criminal law from professionals across firms, private sectors, and local government agencies. Students were encouraged to explore different experiences and network with a wide range of legal professionals. The panel also made space for informal conversations, giving students a chance to ask questions and get honest advice about the practice. As a result, students were able to gain practical insight on all areas of criminal law and open their minds to a multitude of opportunities.

Thank you to all our participating attorneys and to the IndyBar Law Student Division for organizing another valuable program for the Indianapolis legal community. Breakfast with the Bar is an integral program to not only connect students with legal professionals, but to explore our legal community as a whole.

The Law Student Division’s next Breakfast with the Bar will be held on Wednesday, November 12th, and will focus on Family Law & Estate Planning. Students will have the chance to hear from attorneys about career paths in this complex and evolving field. Students who have a 9 a.m. class are welcome to join us. We hope to see you there!
