What is your practice area and passion in the legal field?
I think of myself as a public sector problem solver. I mainly represent Hamilton County's departments, offices, and employees in affirmative and defensive litigation. I enjoy brief writing and appellate advocacy. I've also been fortunate to learn some of the procurement and transactional side of the County's endless projects—whether it’s a bridge, our new utility district, or the 911 center that’s under construction. There’s never a dull moment, which I appreciate. Outside my service to Hamilton County, I have been appointed to serve as legal deputy for different county sheriffs in the state, providing advice on the daily challenges and opportunities faced by public-safety officials.

What is your involvement with IndyBar?
I serve on the Litigation Section’s executive committee and have done so for about 4 years. Guiding its CLE programming and working with folks passionate about raising the bar (pun intended) and improving the community overall is very rewarding. I was also lucky to participate in the Bar Leader Series—Class XVII (2019).

What is something you're recently proud of?
I grilled some really great ribeyes the other night. But professionally, it has been a privilege to help build a legal department for one of the fastest growing counties in the state (and country too). I am proud of the important work we do daily, which has tangible benefits for our elected officials, colleagues, taxpayers, and businesses.

What are you involved with outside of law?
My wife Kristin, a family physician, and I have three amazing and rambunctious young children. When we’re not working, we devote ourselves to raising good humans and being supportive partners.

How do you like to unwind and relax?
Right now, I don’t have much time for that (see answer above). But I enjoy the outdoors and hopping on my zero-turn mower with a cold beverage. Besides striping the lawn, I read history and current affairs. If I can exercise, squeeze in lunch with a colleague, or catch up with friends, it’s been a good month.
