What is your practice area and passion in the legal field?
My passion for the practice of law, particularly in family law, is rooted in a commitment to advocating for individuals during some of the most challenging times of their lives. Family law allows me to provide advocacy and guidance, by helping families navigate complex issues such as divorce, paternity, guardianship, Children In Need of Services, and adoption, to name a few. It is incredibly fulfilling to work towards solutions that promote stability, security, and the best interests of children and families. The opportunity to make a tangible difference in people's lives and contribute to their well-being drives my dedication.
What is your involvement with IndyBar?
My involvement with the Indianapolis Bar Association has been rewarding. I've been allowed to contribute to the legal community in various capacities. Currently, I'm the Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section. Our section is involved with organizing seminars, workshops, and training sessions aimed at enhancing the skills of our members in mediation, arbitration, and other dispute resolution techniques. In addition to my role in the ADR Section, I am also a member of the Family Law Section Executive Committee. Our section also organizes seminars, workshops, roundtables, and training sessions to members and the community. This committee plays a crucial role in addressing the challenges of all family-law related matters.
Beyond my formal roles within the IndyBar, I am committed to giving back to the legal community, and the general community through volunteer work and financial contributions.
I do these things happily because I take full advantage of the benefits provided by the IndyBar. I network, I learn, I attend the functions.
What is something you're recently proud of?
There are lots of reasons why I'm grateful for every day. I have too many reasons to be thankful including but not limited generally to family, friends, physical health, and mental health to name a few. If I had to pick one reason to be proud, it would that my children are a consistent source of pride for me. They are all well rounded young adults. They are individuals, they are close, and they love each other. They are thoughtful, compassionate, empathetic, funny, and they are good and decent citizens.
What is your involvement outside of law?
I'm active in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated. My five Sands and I recently celebrated our 35th anniversary of membership in the Sorority. I was able to participate in this year's Regional Conference as a delegate. My active involvement in the organization allows me to maintain a section of focus in my life that involves community service.
How do you like to unwind and relax?
Reading and listening to audio books of all kinds.
