A Message from the Section Chair

Patricia Erdmann

“My name is Charley Smith, and I am this year's chair of the Litigation Section. As in past years, in 2017 we are providing continuing legal education on pre-trial and trial procedure. We are switching the focus of our curriculum this year to bench trials. In this series, we'll cover topics such as preliminary injunctions, temporary restraining orders, and other emergency relief; equitable relief, including receiverships, foreclosure trials, and declaratory actions; a judicial panel on bench trial preparation; and finally, a class focusing on the components of a bench trial.

Additionally, we are providing continuing education that is not included within the Plus membership. In October, we will be presenting a class on Indiana’s wrongful death statutes, with Chair Elect Tim Devereux moderating and presenting. Additionally, we are in the process of investigating what out-of-state speakers may be available to discuss damages at a September seminar. Finally, we will have our always-popular judicial roundtable in November.

If you have programming or ideas you would like to see from the Litigation Section, please do not hesitate to contact me or any other members of our executive committee. I look forward to serving you this year.”
