The COVID-19 public health crisis has caused many people to reconsider their estate planning in light of scenarios that may have previously been unthinkable. As a service to IndyBar members, the Indianapolis Bar Foundation Legacy Society and the IndyBar Estate Planning & Administration Section have teamed up to offer a free review of existing estate planning documents.

The Indianapolis Bar Association & Foundation are committed to assisting both its members and central Indiana families in need during the coronavirus crisis. The IndyBar has implemented two new programs by and for its members: The IndyBar Crisis Empowerment Grant Program and The COVID-19 Virtual Pro Bono Program.

The Indianapolis Bar Foundation is providing grants of up to $3,000 for lawyers to perform services through the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Outreach Committee’s Crisis Empowerment Program for Central Indiana families in need of legal services during the COVID-19 shutdown.

Each year the Indianapolis Bar Foundation honors such lawyers for their dedication to the law by bestowing on them the designation of Distinguished Fellow and Distinguished Life Fellow.

IndyBar members and the legal community overwhelmingly showed their support of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation during its second annual Day of Giving on Oct. 23, 2019, with donors contributing $30,619 as of press time.

The Indianapolis Bar Foundation (IBF) Nominating Committee has announced its slate of officers for 2020, naming Raegan Gibson of Paganelli Law Group to the position of First Vice President. Gibson will assume the role of President-Elect in 2021 and will lead the IBF as president in 2022. She has previously served as treasurer of the IBF and is a Distinguished Fellow of the IBF.

The Center for Victim and Human Rights (CVHR) has been named the 2019 recipient of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation’s Impact Fund grant of $35,000. CVHR will use the funding to create the Pro Bono Attorney Project (PBAP) for Marion County-area attorneys to provide limited-scope advice and counsel to pro se victims filing a petition for a protective order.
