Qualified Opportunity Zones (QOZs) are a significant investment opportunity, but with the Internal Revenue Service issuing new regulations and potential timing challenges, practitioners need to be prepared to advise companies how to navigate a challenging environment.
This presentation covers the statutes and regulations collectively known as the "QOZ rules" as they exist as of November 2019. Tune in as the presenter discusses the basic opportunity zone statutory scheme (i.e. what the tax benefits are, who can obtain the tax benefits, and how to obtain the tax benefits), structuring the qualified opportunity fund, tax compliance matters, tax consequences of exit from the fund (including by sale of underlying property) and unique opportunities and pitfalls arising from use of qualified opportunity funds outside of the “typical” single-asset real estate investment.
