Tune in to discuss the relatively new expungement law, which has become one of the fastest-growing areas for legal relief. As use of the expungement statute increases each year, it continues to undergo changes by the Indiana General Assembly. The body of case law from the Indiana Appellate Courts continues to grow and has provided ruling on the interpretation and use of the expungement law.

The 2019 Indiana General Assembly made significant additions to expungement law. This annual update with brand new topics explores the practical application of the expungement law, and as a newly added perk this year, forms will be provided. In addition to a general review of the practice, the speaker also discusses how the law’s prohibition of discriminating against a person based on an expunged conviction has ramifications in regards to civil rights. We also ask: what does an expungement do and NOT do? How does expungement affect my client? What should I review with my client that pertains to expungement?

Speaker
Andrew J. Fogle, Marion County Prosecutor's Office; Elizabeth C. Milliken, Indiana Supreme Court, Division of State Court Administration
