New this year, the YLD is introducing its “Member Spotlight,” which will recognize a YLD member each quarter who has gone above and beyond in his or her commitment to the YLD. The Member Spotlight for December 2016 is focused on Whitney Fritz. See below for more information about Whitney and her dedication to the YLD.
YLD Member Spotlight: Whitney Fritz, Indiana State Department of Health
Though born in Utah, Whitney has resided in the land of Hoosiers since the age of four and considers herself a successful transplant. She graduated from Rochester High School (2004) and Butler University (2008). After earning her undergraduate degrees, she joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and spent one year in Sitka, Alaska working in a domestic violence shelter. She then attended and graduated from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law (2012). For three years, Whitney worked as the general manager of a local chain of bakeries, The Flying Cupcake. In spring 2015, she joined the Indiana State Department of Health as a staff attorney where she works at the intersection of public health and administrative law. Outside of work, Whitney enjoys spending time her with husband John and dog Toby, reading, yoga, and baking.
Whitney involved herself with the IndyBar during law school by attending events such as “Take a Law Student to Lunch” and “Ask a Lawyer” and enrolling in IndyBar Review. While working a nontraditional job at the bakery, she kept her toe in the legal water by attending multiple IndyBar CLEs, and joining the social committee for the Young Lawyers Division (YLD). Whitney is also a member of 2020 Futures Committee and the Executive Committee for the Health and Life Sciences section. In addition to enjoying the IndyBar social events, Whitney encourages all members to keep an eye out for IndyBar civic events. Some of her favorites include the Great Indy Cleanup with the YLD and Legal Lines with the Health and Life Sciences Section. Last, but certainly not least, Whitney hopes all members are aware and take advantage of the multiple scholarship opportunities IndyBar affords its members. Last year, Whitney received a scholarship from the Health and Life Sciences section to attend the American Health Lawyers Association conference in Chicago, and this year, received a scholarship from the YLD to attend her favorite IndyBar event thus far – The Bench Bar Conference.
Thank you, Whitney, for your time and for being the YLD’s December 2016 “Member Spotlight.” Very well deserved. Congrats!
The YLD appreciates its members’ support for IndyBar events and causes and seeks to acknowledge those members whose efforts truly make the YLD a better organization. You could be the next member in the spotlight!
