By Stephanie McGowan, Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff LLP
I am an associate at Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff LLP, and a member of the firm’s Litigation Department, as well as the Transportation and Logistics Group. I also serve on my firm’s Associate Development Committee.
I have experience in a wide variety of business and commercial litigation, including business contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, products liability, creditor’s rights, employment disputes, insurance law, and municipal law, in both state and federal courts.
I earned my J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law in 2012. During law school, I served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Judge Nannette Baker of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. I also served as the Associate Managing Editor of the Washington University Global Studies Law Review and on the Executive Board of the Student Bar Association. I received my B.A. with Distinction in All Subjects and magna cum laude in Government and History with a minor in Law and Society from Cornell University in 2009. I spent my junior year abroad as a Visiting Student at the University of Oxford, Pembroke College, where I read History and Politics. As a native Hoosier, I was excited to have the opportunity to move back to the state after law school and start my career.
In my free time, I enjoy long-distance running and I am usually training for my next marathon or half marathon. I am also a member of a coed flag football team and softball team. During the warmer months, I enjoy going to concerts at the Lawn, cookouts, and getting outside as much as possible. I also enjoy finding time to just relax and read a book, watch TV, or go to the movies.
I have been active in the YLD since starting my legal career in August 2012 and have met countless friends and colleagues through IBA events. I am currently a member of the IBA Bar Leader Series Class XIII and will graduate in May. I currently serve as an At Large Member of YLD Executive Board and assist in putting on various YLD social events, community service events, and CLEs. I look forward to meeting other IBA and YLD members throughout the upcoming year!
