Young Lawyers News

By Justin Allen, Plews Shadley Racher & Braun LLP

I grew up a few hours from Indianapolis in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. After four years at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, and three years of law school at Washington University in St. Louis, I moved to Indianapolis for my first job. I had very few connections to the city when I came here, but I’ve discovered a city that I’m proud to call home.

When I first moved to Indy, I quickly got involved in the IndyBar, and in particular, the Young Lawyers Division. Within a matter of months, I felt like I had fully integrated into the legal community and had made a lot of great friends. This city and its legal community are very welcoming, which made my transition so much easier.

I work as a litigator with the firm of Plews Shadley Racher & Braun, focusing primarily in the areas of environmental law and insurance recovery. Outside of work, I like to hang out on Mass Ave, catch a game at Victory Field, and run along the Canal. I’m also an avid golfer and sports junkie. My firm bio is here and my LinkedIn profile is here.

I am one of the newest members of the YLD Executive Committee. The YLD has provided great learning and networking opportunities to me since I moved to Indianapolis, so I am honored to have the opportunity to give back as a member of the board. If you are interested in learning more about the YLD or otherwise networking, please don’t hesitate to contact me at
