Tuesday, April 2, 2019 was Equal Pay Day. A recent study conducted by the American Association of University Women shows that Indiana falls well below the national average in wage parity. Indiana men are paid 37 percent more than their female peers. The national median average is around 25 percent, according to the report. This puts Indiana's rank at 49th, with adjacent counties Illinois and Kentucky ranking 38th and 33rd, respectively. Erika Taylor, CEO of YWCA Evansville, says in the state of Indiana, women are losing over a half-million dollars over the course of their lifetime due to the wage disparities.

While U.S. companies are making efforts to close the wage gap, the pace at which they are doing so is not swift enough. Taylor believes at this pace, it will be well into 2050 before the wage gap would close. Read more about the study here.
