Women and the Law News

Posted on: Jun 19, 2017

It’s not that the Women and the Law Division Philanthropic arm only goes about having fun and spreading cheer, but it sure seems like that sometimes! A few of our activities are recapped below.

We received a thank you note from the children of Coburn Place who attended last year’s Christmas Party. Thanks to all our members who volunteered. For those who would like to volunteer this year, the 2017 holiday party is scheduled for December 9th  at 10:00 a.m.

A group of WLD members met the end of April at lunchtime with several 6th grade students from Nora Elementary School in affiliation with Girls, Inc. We discussed the girl’s “roadmap to the future." This is a version of what would you like to be when you grow up.  Surprisingly, many of our WLD members did not start out intending to be attorneys. Our 6th grade colleagues intend to be nurses, attorneys general, doctors, lawyers, and veterinarians. Yeah!

In June, WLD members met with women at Dress for Success. Our members reviewed and gave resume suggestions, conducted mock interviews, and practiced shaking hands. Kudos to the women who participate in Dress for Success, who take steps to create a better life for themselves and their families. Our next Dress for Success volunteer opportunity is scheduled for September 13th.

Lastly, thank you to our WLD members who attended our Summer Reception and donated toiletries to the Beacon of Hope Crisis Shelter.  We heard a little about their good work and donated a substantial number of toiletries to women who are experiencing trauma.

At our next scheduled Philanthropy event we will make 100 Dream Dinners for residents of the Julian Center and patients participating in the Eskenazi hospital Embrace program.  Hope to see many of you there on September 12th. We will send out a flier when it is time to sign up.

Thank you again to all of our wonderful members!
