On Thursday November 7, 2019, the IndyBar Women and the Law Division (WLD) hosted the 2019 Antoinette Dakin Leach (ADL) Award Luncheon honoring Judge Heather Welch. More than 150 judges, lawyers and members of the Indianapolis community attended the luncheon to support and honor Judge Welch. Judge Tonya Walton Pratt, a former ADL Award Recipient, made opening remarks about Judge Welch and the path Judge Welch has trailblazed for other female attorneys.

Judge Pratt highlighted Judge Welch’s work in spearheading (with others) the Indiana Commercial Court Pilot Project, which has now been made a permanent court by our Indiana Supreme Court. In addition to presiding over the Indiana Commercial Court Docket in Marion County, Judge Welch maintains a full non-commercial civil docket, serves on the Marion County Superior Court Executive Committee, serves on the board of numerous other legal and non-legal charitable organizations, serves as an adjunct professor at IU McKinney School of Law, and still manages to find time to mentor young attorneys and law students through externships each semester.
In her remarks, Judge Welch talked about her path to success, and insisted she owes much of her success to her own role models and mentors, such as Mayor Joe Hogsett, Judge Tanya Walton Pratt, and Chief Judge Jane Magnus Stinson.  Judge Welch also thanked her parents, husband, and sons for the lifetime of support they have given her, which allowed her to achieve her success.
Judge Welch is known throughout the Indianapolis bar for being a sharp, hardworking, well-prepared, and incredibly fair judge. The WLD congratulates Judge Welch on this well-deserved recognition!
