This tax season, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is attempting to curtail identity theft by mailing identity verification requests to various taxpayers. This article offers an explanation for it and also reminds taxpayers that these are mailed letters - not email or phone calls - that are real. Stay alert for IRS scams in these other forms of communication.
