On Tuesday, September 16, members of IndyBar's Tax Section participated in "Tax Panel & Networking Session", a program for law students at IU McKinney School of Law. The IndyBar organized the panel of speakers, and over 25 students participated in the event.
The panelists were chosen so as to provide a wide range of tax careers. The goal was to demonstrate the diverse options within a career in tax. The panelists included:
o Nathan Swingly with the IRS
o Andrew Swain with Attorney General’s Office
o Doug Klitzke
o Francina Dlouhy with Faegre Baker Daniels LLP
o Scott Novak with Eli Lilly
o Marc Caito with KPMG
o Zia Mollabashy with Barnes & Thornburg LLP
o William Graff with Katz Sapper & Miller
o Judge Martha Wentworth with Indiana Tax Court
Each member of the panel discussed his or her career path and how they arrived in a career doing tax. After that, the whole panel answered a couple of questions from the group of students. The panelists emphasized that they interpret laws and statutes and that a career in tax is not necessarily all driven by numbers. The last 20 minutes were reserved to allow the students to mingle with the panelists whom they found most interesting.
To join our next event at IU McKinney School of Law, check out Coffee Hour on Tuesday, October 21 from 8 to 9 a.m. All IndyBar Tax Section members are invited, and free coffee, donuts and parking will be available.
