Meeting Minutes
May 25, 2017
  1. TRAC 2017 
    1. Jason and Deneen provided the 2017 TRAC budget and a summary of the event. It was reported that TRAC was an overall good event coming in under budget, but attendance numbers were down.  
  2. What Next For My Film? 
    1. The film 2-hour CLE is set for Thursday, October 19, 2017 during the Heartland Film Festival at the AMC Theatre in the main pavilion. Cate is working on the speaking panel. Jason will follow up with Cate on this event since she was not able to join the meeting.
    2. It was decided that the three groups to market for the film CLE are IP, Young Lawyers and the Networking Group.
  3. Sexual Abuse in Sports and Entertainment 
    1. The sexual abuse in sports and entertainment CLE is set for August 24, 2017, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. followed by the Indians game social event.  The following speakers are confirmed: 
      1. Tim Evans, Investigative and Consumer Reporter Indy Star
      2. Jon Little, Attorney, Saeed and Little, LLP
      3. Ron Elberger, Partner, Bose McKinney and Evans
    2. Two other panel speakers are trying to be secured. Matt will provide an update at the next meeting or via email.  
    3. The idea of marketing the CLE with the IndyStar was mentioned.The group agreed that we need to spend some money on the two CLEs marketing efforts since they are the only two big educational events for the section this year. Email marketing will go to the criminal justice section, women and the law division, and solo practitioner/small firm.
    4. Pricing: It was decided that the price would be $50 for non-lawyers without attending the Indians game. For the Indians game, it was decided that SELS+ would be $25, students $10, and those not in the section $25. 
  4. Bench Bar Scholarship: June 15-17 ($715)
    1. Gabi Olshemski will receive the scholarship of $715 to attend the conference that takes place June 15-17.  Gabi was the only applicant and the group agreed she was well deserving of the scholarship.
  5. Indy Attorneys Network CLE and Networking Social Thursday, May 4
    1. Jason asked the group if anyone attended the networking CLE. It was reported that the program was well attended and the speakers continued past the allotted time.
  6. IBF Gala Contribution 
    1. Cat will see if she is able to put together a basket for the Gala through her Pacers Sports and Entertainment connections. If not, the section will donate the $250 for the IBF to use as necessary.
  7. Insurance Coverage Section – CLE Partnership Request
    1. It was decided that the SEL section will co-market the risk management CLE. The date would be sometime in September. Potential topics and facilitators will be discussed after the Insurance Coverage section meets next week. Matt will be in touch with Andrea Warren on this partnership.
  8. Bylaws and SELS
    1. Bylaws say we can have a SELS rep on the committee along with an administrator or professor of sports or entertainment law at the law school.
      1. Kyle will reach out to Dean Klein about partnering with the law school, SELS student group and any other partnership ideas.  
  9. October Executive Committee Meeting and Formal Outreach
    1. The new executive committee starts Nov. 1 with Matt taking over as chair. Patricia Kinney is willing to serve as 2018-19 chair if she has a co-chair with her. The section will need to meet in October to elect the new committee members. 
    2. Jason will reach out to Advisory Board members about removing them from the roster. Jason will also reach out to at-large committee members about interest of staying on the committee. There are other interested individuals that we think could be more involved. Jason will report back to the group on responses. Jason will also reach out the law school SELS president to see if he/she could attend meetings.  
  10. Other business
    1. No meeting in July. Summer meetings will be conducted via email.
