Information Provided by Marion Superior Court:
Last week, the Indianapolis Bar Association notified its members that civil jury trials in the Marion Superior Court will begin the week of September 14, 2020. Due to questions arising from the first notification, the court offers this additional clarification.
Due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic (i.e., social distancing), the Court, as a whole, will conduct one civil trial each week. Starting the week of September 14, and continuing through the end of 2020, the civil division court were assigned specific weeks in which to conduct a civil jury trial. Some Civil Term judges decided not to conduct any jury trials during the remainder of 2020. Here is the current schedule for courts intending to conduct a jury trial through the end of the year:
Week of 9/14: Judge Oakes
Week of 9/21: Judge Welch
Week of 9/28: Judge Dreyer
Week of 10/5: Judge Eisgruber
Week of 10/12: Judge Dietrick
Week of 10/19: Judge Hanley
Week of 10/26: Judge Joven
Week of 11/2: NONE (Election Day)
Week of 11/9: NONE (Veteran's Day)
Week of 11/16: Judge Chavis
Week of 11/23: NONE (Thanksgiving)
Week of 11/30: Judge Dreyer
Week of 12/7: Judge Ayers
Week of 12/14: Judge Welch
In addition, individual judges may trade dates assigned to them for jury trials; or, if the assigned judge does not have a jury trial proceed on the date assigned, another judge can use that date.
Please note that civil jury trials will begin on Tuesday UNLESS the Court conducting the jury trial makes other arrangements.
Thank you for your patience as we attempt to re-start the civil jury trial process in Marion County. We appreciate everyone's cooperation.
