This article was originally published in 2011, but the point is still valid: civility breeds success. The author mentions client expectations and the incorrect expectation that lawyers on different sides of an issue should always be confrontational. I have actually experienced this misconception when a client expressed disapproval of me saying goodbye and shaking opposing counsel’s hand after a hearing. Of course this collegiality later benefited the client when it came time to negotiate. Read this article to learn how treating each other with respect can benefit everyone.
