Litigation News

Posted on: Nov 1, 2017

Greetings! It’s been a very good and productive year for the Litigation Section, and we still have additional learning and social opportunities for our members! This past quarter we offered a CLE on determining which wrongful death statute applies to a particular case, a well-attended course in which Robert Jensen of Johnson Jensen, and Tom Jarzniecki of Kightlinger & Gray spoke about the particulars of Indiana’s Wrongful Death Act. Check out the replay here if you missed it.

We still have the Judicial Roundtable set for November 30 at 4 p.m. at the offices of Frost Brown Todd, with a reception to follow. The Honorable Timothy Oakes, Honorable Gary Miller, and Honorable Patrick “PJ” Dietrick will speak on the implications of social media on your practice and your relationship with judges. Professor Joel Schumm of the IU McKinney Law School will moderate the discussion. Currently, close to 25 judges have already responded to say they will be joining us for the post-roundtable reception with judges from the federal courts, the Indiana Supreme Court, the Indiana Court of Appeals, Marion Superior Court and Hamilton Superior Court included in that number. Register for the program here.

Finally, we have one more continuing education opportunity to offer for our members this year. On December 20, Dan Chamberlain of Cohen & Malad and Dr. Polly Wescott of IU Health, a brain injury and PTSD expert, will speak on football related injuries and the lawsuits arising out of those injuries. Mr. Chamberlain is representing several former NFL players in lawsuits related to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, a disease arising out of a history of repetitive brain trauma, and one of the biggest concerns in football today. This will prove to be a very interesting and informative way to get that last hour of CLE credit that you need before the end of the year!

Thank you for what has been a great year thus far! If you have any ideas for 2018 programming, please contact any member of the Litigation Section Executive Committee. We’ll see you on November 30 at the Judicial Roundtable and Reception!
