Greetings! I am the chair of the Litigation Section. I hope you are having a good winter and want to let you know about the Litigation Section’s upcoming programming. As in past years, we are providing continuing legal education on pre-trial and trial procedure. We are switching the focus of our curriculum this year to bench trials. Our first class, to take place on March 21, will focus on preliminary injunctions, temporary restraining orders, and other emergency relief. The second class, to take place on April 18, will focus on equitable relief, including receiverships, foreclosure trials, and to declaratory actions. A third class, to occur on May 16, will emphasize preparing for bench trial, and will include a judicial panel. Finally, our June 20 class will focus on the components of a bench trial.
Additionally, we are providing additional continuing education that is not included within the Plus CLE membership. On October 17, we will be presenting a class on Indiana’s wrongful death statutes, with Chair Elect Tim Devereux moderating and presenting. Additionally, we are in the process of investigating what out-of-state speakers may be available to discuss damages at a September seminar. Finally, we will have our annual judicial roundtable in November.
We have added four new members to the executive committee for the Litigation Section this year. First, Robert Nice of the Nice Law Firm joins us with a lengthy history of practice in a wide variety of areas of litigation. Pamela Schneeman joins us from the Office of Corporation Counsel for the City of Indianapolis. Alex Limontes joins us from the Law Offices of William Hurst, where he focuses on plaintiff’s personal injury practice. And finally, Lynsey David, from Lewis Wagner LLP, joins us with her practice focus on insurance, premises liability, product liability, and transportation. We look forward to the contributions each of these new members can bring to the section from their diverse areas of practice.
Keep an eye on the IndyBar events calendarFinally, if you have programming or ideas you would like to see the Litigation Section consider, please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the other members of our executive committee. I look forward to serving you this year!
