As voluntary e-filing has been implemented in the Marion County Court system as of October 28, the court and clerk have received questions from local attorneys regarding the access of electronic court records. Public access terminals that provide free access to electronic court cases are now available in the County Clerk's office. For an additional opportunity to provide feedback on this topic, please see the information below. Meaningful comments are very much welcomed on this important matter.
An Indiana Supreme Court advisory group is seeking feedback regarding Internet access to court records. The 21-member Advisory Task Force on Remote Access to and Privacy of Electronic Court Records is responsible for studying best practices and policies on Internet access to court records.
The group met in six public meetings over the past year and compiled a report recommending certain trial and appellate court documents be available online free of charge. Comments on the recommendations will be accepted until December 1, 2016. There is a form online here for submitting comments electronically, or comments can be submitted in writing to the following address:
Justin Forkner
Deputy Director
Indiana Office of Court Services
30 South Meridian Street, Suite 500
Indianapolis, IN 46204
Once comments are submitted to the Court, it will review the responses and decide whether to adopt the Task Force's recommendations.
