The Hon. Tim Oakes of Marion Superior Court will serve as chair of the IndyBar Litigation Section in 2014. Learn more about Judge Oakes below.

Before being elected Judge in 2008, Tim Oakes served as the President and General Counsel of the Indiana Cable Telecommunications Association (ICTA) from March 2004 to December of 2008. Immediately prior to joining ICTA, Tim practiced law as a sole practitioner for eight years at Oakes Law Office specializing in criminal defense, family law, government affairs, and probate. Tim also held part-time Public Defender contracts with Marion and Shelby Counties. During the legislative sessions of 2001-2004, Tim also served as Contract Legal Counsel to the Indiana House of Representatives, Republican Caucus. Tim also serves as Adjunct Professor to the School for Public and Environmental Affairs, IUPUI, teaching Evidence, and to the Indiana University School of Law- Indianapolis, teaching a course on Judicial Selection.

Tim had previously worked on the staffs of former Governor Robert D. Orr, Mayors William Hudnut and Steve Goldsmith, Appeals Court Judge Linda Chezem and Marion County Prosecutor Scott Newman. Active in his community, Tim has served on the Boards of Child Advocates, Marion County Public Defender Agency, Tech High School Community Council, and the Butler Tarkington Neighborhood Association, and he maintains memberships and active roles as a Class Agent for Wabash College, Meridian Kessler Neighborhood Association, and Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Thomas Catholic Churches. Tim received his undergraduate degree in 1986 from Wabash College, spending one semester abroad at Oxford University in 1985, and he received his J.D. from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 1991.
