Law Student News

Welcome back, law students, and for 1Ls, welcome! My name is Riley Parr, and I’m extremely privileged to serve as the chair of the Law Student Division for the upcoming school year.

We have an exceptional slate of opportunities planned for this semester. Whether it’s networking events, chances to give back to the community through the many pro bono events, or gaining practical skills while shadowing lawyers as they work with real clients, there’s something for everyone at the IndyBar.

Our popular Breakfast with the Bar events, which focus on exposing students to possible careers within a practice area, will kick off in September, with our first event spotlighting careers in real estate and land use. In October, a group of lawyers will discuss in-house counsel opportunities and we will close the semester highlighting both solo practitioners or practitioners whose firm size is less than five.

There are always events going on with other IndyBar sections and divisions, so keep an eye out for IndyBar emails and keep up on social media. You can find IndyBar on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Vimeo. If an event looks interesting, sign up for it! You never know who might be there. If you don’t want to go alone, you can contact me or another member of the Law Student Executive Committee.

Finally, if you’re looking for an organization to get involved with while you’re in law school, I strongly encourage you to consider applying to be one of the Law Student Division’s Executive Board members (application process opens mid-September for the spring semester.) I’ve been able to meet other students and friends I never would have otherwise. The potential for establishing your reputation with practitioners and judges in the Indianapolis area is unparalleled.

Please reach out if you have any questions, ideas, or you'd just like to chat! My email is I hope to see you around this year!
