The IndyBar Law Student Division welcomed four practicing sports and entertainment law attorneys for another installment of the Breakfast With the Bar series on Friday, April 13, 2018. Joining the McKinney students were Wes Zirkle, Partner at Keller Macaluso; Tiffany Hemmer, Vice President of Business Affairs and Legal Counsel for Andretti Autosport; Catherine Corsaro, Associate Counsel at Pacers Sports & Entertainment; and Jason Bonikowske, General Counsel for CSM Sport & Entertainment.
Zirkle, Hemmer, Corsaro and Bonikowske fielded many questions from the students in attendance. Most of the time spent was on how each ended up at their current job, classes they took in law school which benefit them in their current role and networking. All panelists discussed the growing need for internet/IP related courses in the sports and entertainment industry. Panelists also noted that many of them were able to transition their internships/externships during law school into a full-time job.
Amy Miller Osborne, a 4L evening student at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law had this to say about the session: “I enjoyed learning how each panelist got to where they are now. Learning how sports and entertainment law encapsulates so many areas of law encourages me since I did not specialize in one area during law school. Their advice will be extremely helpful as I begin my post-law school career.”
