Law Student News

Members from the IndyBar Health Care and Life Sciences Section joined students from the Law Student Division to discuss practice of health law. We had a diverse group of attorneys that represented practice areas in Medical Malpractice Defense, Academia/Research, In-house Counsel, and Medical Devices and Products. Below are some of the key points and tips from the event.

1. For most health law careers a medical background is not required.  However, it can be an advantage in the hiring process.

2. For those looking to gain experience in the health law field, pro bono work is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door and gain familiarity with the people who are practicing in the Indianapolis area.

3. Recommended pro bono groups include: The Indiana Health Advocacy Coalition, Indianapolis Legal Aid Society, and The Indiana Security & Privacy Network.

4. If you’re looking to network with practitioners, CLEs and bar association events are great way to make connections.
