On Friday, January 20, the Law Student Division held another event in the well-attended Breakfast with the Bar series, this time covering legal careers in real estate. The law students asked a wide variety of questions, but it's safe to say that everyone wanted to know how the attorneys manage practicing in an area as unpredictable as real estate. The consensus among the attorneys, even one that began practicing in 2007, is to build a diverse real estate practice. Many of the concerns students had about how the economy impacts practicing real estate law were relieved. The litigators in the room agreed that downturns in the economy do not impact their practice as much as people think they would, because people still sue one another through the good and the bad times. Another attorney’s, like the finance attorney for the largest public retail developer in the world, workload depends on what part of the quarter they are in. Just like any other area of law, the attorneys stressed the importance of meeting people and networking. Overall, the students learned valuable information that sparked an excitement in real estate law. Thank you to all of the participants!
