On Friday, April 10, three attorneys gathered with a group of law students for coffee and discussion about diversity. The attorneys included the Deputy Director of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, Vice-President and Deputy General Counsel of Eli Lilly, and Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Faegre Baker Daniels LLP. We discussed how we define diversity, particularly in ways other than the typical protected class interpretation. In addition, we learned how diversity affects the legal community and their careers. The open and candid discussion about how to embrace your own characteristics provided the students with great insight on how to continue their education and career.
