Prepared by the Labor & Employment Law Section Executive Committee

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission will soon have five commissioners for the first time in years after Democrat Jocelyn Samuels was confirmed by the Senate with a 54-42 vote late in September. About a week before, the Senate also confirmed Republicans Andrea Lucas (49-44) and Keith Sonderling (51-42). Because of the time taken to nominate and confirm Samuels, her term expires in July of 2021. Commissioner Sonderling has already been sworn in.

Find bios for the new Commissioners as they are sworn in here. News coverage is available at HRDive. Curiously, it seems most news coverage of the Senate’s confirmation proceedings are not focused on the EEOC.
