Greetings fellow members of the IndyBar Labor & Employment Law Section. During the first half of 2017, the section continued to deliver high-quality educational programming and networking opportunities, and moving forward, we will continue to do so.
On June 23, the section continued its “Judicial Series” with “Employment Law Summary Judgment Briefing – Best Practices from the Bench” featuring Hon. Jane Magnus-Stinson, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana, and Hon. William T. Lawrence, District Court Judge, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana. These two well-respected and experienced federal District Court judges analyzed the "dos and don'ts" of employment law summary judgment briefing, in hopes of helping you make the best decisions for your client when it comes to drafting your briefs.
On July 20, Professor Barbara J. Fick again will present her always-entertaining and informative review of U.S. Supreme Court decisions with implications on the field of labor and employment. Register for the event here.
On August 23, we will host the next “Judicial Series” event covering protective orders and e-discovery issues in employment law cases. Stay tuned for more details and registration information!
Beyond these educational events, please also mark your calendars for the section’s annual Labor Day social event. The event once again will be on held on the preceding Thursday (August 31) at Hotel Tango, a locally owned and operated artisan distillery. Please join us for some cocktails and appetizers!
Looking ahead to the final quarter of the year, we will hold the final “Judicial Series” event on pro se litigation in employment law. This event will be held October 19. Additionally, the section will once again host its annual Small Business Seminar, which focuses on employment law challenges facing small businesses, including issues on wage & hour, immigration, hiring and firing issues, non-compete agreements, and employment discrimination. The seminar will take place at the Tinker House on October 25 from 1 to 5 p.m. with a social hour following the program. Please encourage your small business contacts to attend!
Stay tuned for more information about all of these events and more!
