Insurance Coverage Section Take Ten Q+A Series: Mag. Therese Hannah - Insurance Coverage

Insurance Coverage

Posted on: Mar 30, 2021

Meet members of the Insurance Coverage Section with the Take Ten Q&A Series!

Meet: Magistrate Therese Hannah, Marion Superior Court

What is the focus of your practice?
Magistrate schedules change on a yearly basis. This year, I am primarily on the civil side and am assigned to Courts 3, 13 and one morning a week at Traffic Court. For several years I have had the pleasure of working on the Marion County Mass Tort Docket and the Environmental Docket. These cases are frequently populated with insurance issues, which brought me to the insurance section.

How long have you been practicing?
I have been a lawyer for nearly 40 years, but I took an extended “break” after the first of my children were born. When my youngest started school, I interned for Judge Ken Johnson. The law still captivated me, so when a position on the court opened, I jumped at the chance. I have served as a special master, Commissioner and now a Magistrate.

How long have you been in Indy?
My entire life.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not at work?
I like to bake, read, take walks, swim and mostly spend time with my husband, children and (now) grandchildren.

What are some of your goals for the section this year and what are you most excited about for the section?
This year, I would like to celebrate being together in-person. Also, welcoming new members with interesting programs and events.

Tell us about your favorite restaurant(s) in Indy.
For the past year my favorite restaurant has been anyone who will deliver! In person dining would have to be Mama Carolla’s.

If you would like to be featured in the Take Ten Q+A series, send your responses to the above questions to Kara Sikorski at ksikorski@indybar.org and stay tuned for future installments!
