Meet members of the Insurance Coverage Section Executive Committee with the Take Ten Q&A Series!

Meet: Greg Gotwald, Plews Shadley Racher & Braun LLP

Where do you currently practice and for how long have you practiced?
I’ve been doing insurance coverage work at Plews Shadley Racher & Braun LLP since September 2004.

What is your background as a coverage attorney?
I’ve been doing policyholder side coverage work for over a decade and have worked on several of the key Indiana law-making cases that have been decided during this time.

What are you most excited about for the Insurance Coverage Section?

I’m really excited that we’re creating a viable and helpful section for coverage attorneys and those that are affected by insurance issues in their practices. I think it is great that a pillar of the section is to have both sides—policyholders and insurers—involved in everything we do.

What has been the most surprising thing you’ve learned in your years as an attorney?
The easiest cases are against the best attorneys. The most difficult cases are against those practicing in areas beyond their day-to-day focus.

What has been your proudest moment as an attorney?
Securing funding for clients from their insurers in a time of great need—often when they’ve been sued or suffered a serious loss to their business.

What is your favorite piece of advice or quote from your years as an attorney?
"Another round of editing will always make your written product better."

What type of community service or philanthropy do you engage in?
I’m very involved with Child Advocates. It serves as the Court Appointed Special Advocate for the abused and neglected children in Marion County. We serve as the Child’s voice in Court.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I met my wife interviewing her for a job.

Tell us about your favorite restaurant(s) in Indy.
My favorite place is Recess. I’ve always loved everything Greg Hardesty has done.

Which experiences in Indy are on your bucket or to-do list this year?
The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.
