Meet members of the Insurance Coverage Section Executive Committee with the Take Ten Q&A Series!
Meet: Allison Theisen, Allstate Insurance Company
Where do you currently practice and for how long have you practiced?
I am an In-house trial attorney at Allstate Insurance Company. I have practiced law since September 2009.
What is your background as a coverage attorney?
I have practiced insurance defense almost my entire career. I have 5 and a half years of experience doing insurance defense litigation at law-firms in Florida and Indiana. I just recently went in-house at Allstate Insurance Company.
What are you most excited about for the Insurance Coverage Section?
To put on CLEs and help other attorneys understand insurance law in a more relatable and less boring way.
What has been the most surprising thing you’ve learned in your years as an attorney?
That what you see on television could not be farther from reality when it comes to practicing law.
What has been your proudest moment as an attorney?
This sounds cliché, but passing the Florida Bar Exam has to be my proudest moment as an attorney.
What is your favorite piece of advice or quote from your years as an attorney?
“Luck is for the ill-prepared.” My father, who is an attorney in Fort Wayne, Indiana, constantly replies with this quote as soon as I tell him “good luck” before a hearing, trial, etc.
What type of community service or philanthropy do you engage in?
I was part of the Indianapolis Bar Leader Series from 2014-2015. My group and I put on a community service event at IUPUI that focused on mental health awareness. We also published a pamphlet focusing on mental health awareness that directs members of our community on how and where to get help and the resources available to them. Recently, my co-workers at Allstate and I volunteered at Gleaner’s Food Bank in Indianapolis and helped unbox and package brown sacked lunches for underprivileged children.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I was attacked by a squirrel in my driveway when I was 12 years old. People always get a laugh about that one.
Tell us about your favorite restaurant(s) in Indy?
I cannot get enough of the Eagle on Mass Avenue. If you like fried chicken, they have the best in town.
Which experiences in Indy are on your bucket or to-do list this year?
I can’t wait for the Indy 500’s 100th running. I also am looking forward to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Yuletide Celebration during Christmas time.
