2021-2022 Marion Superior Court Executive Committee Elected - IndyBar News

On January 19, 2021, the General Term of the Marion Superior Court elected its new Executive Committee for the 2021-2022 Term.  Judge Amy Jones was elected to serve as the Presiding Judge. Judge John MT Chavis II, Judge Alicia Gooden and Judge James Osborn will join her on the Executive Committee as Associate Presiding Judges. 
  
Judges Jones and Gooden continue their involvement with the Executive Committee after serving as Associate Presiding Judges during the 2019-2020 Executive Committee term.  Judges Chavis and Osborn return to the Court's leadership team having previously served on the Executive Committee.  All four have been greatly involved in the development, planning and design of the Community Justice Center. 
  
About the Marion Superior Executive Committee 
The Executive Committee is comprised of four judges: one Presiding Judge and three Associate Presiding Judges, who are responsible for the operation and conduct of the Court. 
  
About Judge Amy Jones 
Judge Jones has served the Marion Superior Court since 2013.  She currently presides over Court 34.  She also presides over the Court's Mental Health problem-solving dockets.  With this election, Judge Jones commences her third term on the Executive Committee.  She also co-chaired the Court's Justice Center Taskforce in 2017-2018.  She was appointed in 2016 to the Mayor’s Task Force on Criminal Justice Reform.  She serves on the Indiana Supreme Court's Jury Committee and as a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association's Criminal Justice Section.  She previously served as the Co-Chair of IndyBar's Bench Bar Committee.  Prior to her service on the bench, Jones practiced as a Deputy Prosecutor, Public Defender and a private practitioner. 
  
About Judge John MT Chavis II 
Judge Chavis has served the Marion Superior Court since 2013.  He currently presides over Court 5.  Prior to his time on the bench, Chavis was in private practice.  He has previously served the Court as Presiding Judge during the 2015-2016 term and Associate Presiding Judge in 2014.  Chavis also served on the Court's Family Operations Subcommittee in 2019-2020 and has assisted in the redrafting of the Court's local rules. 
  
About Judge Alicia Gooden 
Judge Gooden was appointed to the Court in 2015, after previously serving as a Master Commissioner in Marion Circuit Court from 2001 – 2010.  She currently presides over Court 14, which is one of the Family Division courts. Gooden served on the Executive Committee in 2019-2020 and chaired the Family Operations Subcommittee during that time.  Gooden has worked extensively on the creation of the newly formed Family Division which began operations on January 1.  Gooden is the President-Elect of the Indianapolis Bar Association, as well as serves on the Indiana Supreme Court's Family Law Taskforce.  Judge Gooden also represents Marion County on the Indiana Judges Association’s Board of Managers. 
  
About Judge James Osborn 
Judge Osborn joined the Court in 2009.  He currently presides over Court 21.  Osborn has previously served on as an Associate Presiding Judge for the Court.  He chaired the Court's Technology Committee in addition to serving as the Jury Supervising Judge.  Osborn also served on the Court's Budget Committee and Juvenile Court Committee.  Osborn currently serves on the Indiana Supreme Court's Strategic Planning Committee.
