Judge Sarah Evans Barker Recipient of 2012 Advancing American Democracy Award - IndyBar News

The Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site has announced Judge Sarah Evans Barker of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana as the recipient of the 2012 Advancing American Democracy Award. The award will be presented to Judge Barker at the 7th Annual Mary Tucker Jasper Speaker Series event, to be held on September 13 at the Columbia Club on Monument Circle.

Judge Barker, a long time IndyBar member and volunteer, was appointed as a district court judge by President Ronald Reagan in 1984, and served as chief judge of the southern district of Indiana from 1994 to 2000. She has served on the Judicial Conference of the United States and several of its committees and as president of the Federal Judges Association.

In addition to her extensive legal career, Judge Barker serves as a Director of Clarian Health Partners, Inc. and is active on various civic, religious and educational boards. Barker presides annually at the Naturalization Court held at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site near the 4th of July holiday, bringing as many as 100 new citizens into our American democracy.
