The Indianapolis Bar Association’s Judicial Excellence Political Action Committee (“JEPAC”) will soon be sending out its judicial survey to attorneys who are members of the Association and to attorneys who, although not Association members, have appeared in the Marion County Courts within the last three years and have an email address on file with the Association. The survey will seek feedback on the qualifications of incumbent judicial officers as well as on the individuals who have declared themselves to be candidates for Marion Superior Court. The survey will be emailed on January 9th and remain open for comment until 11:59 P.M. on January 18th. We plan to release the results on January 20th. The survey is anonymous.
JEPAC was formed to educate voters on the qualifications of candidates for judicial offices as evaluated by those who have first- hand experience with or knowledge of the candidates in professional settings. The results of the survey will be released to not only the candidates themselves but to the Indianapolis legal community, the media and the public.
You will be asked to evaluate only those Judges before whom you have appeared or otherwise with whom you have had professional experience. With respect to the candidates who have not been judges within the last three years, you are asked to only evaluate those persons with whom you have had experience in professional settings or circumstances within the last three years.
The Committee understands that the vast majority of responses will be from litigators but we urge all lawyers who have such experiences or knowledge to complete the portion(s) of the survey applicable to those candidates who you can fairly evaluate. Please be looking for the survey on January 9th and help us gain an accurate evaluation of those who wish to be judges in our clients’ cases.
