Remember the dress clothes you bought when you were first sworn in as an attorney? How long has it been since you have pulled those out of the closet? Besides, when it comes to your closet, who couldn’t use some extra space? The holidays are here after all, and we know you’ll be getting wardrobe refreshers. Speaking of the holidays, we also know you’re in a giving kind of mood…
Perfect timing for all of these considerations. From the IndyBar’s Law Student Division and Young Lawyers Division, get familiar with a new program called “Suited Up”. Let’s get this out of the way early: this program lives and dies with the IndyBar members’ participation, or lack thereof. We need your help
Suited Up is aimed at providing college-bound high school students from low-income households with dress clothes. We are partnering with a mentoring organization called Starfish Initiative to connect with these students. The dress clothes are where we need YOU. All clothing will be donated by IndyBar members. We need suits, dress shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, shoes, ties and whatever else you think a young person might need to look the part of an aspiring professional.
The first step to get Suited Up rolling is the clothing drive. From December 1, 2015, through January 15, 2016, we’ll be collecting donations at the following locations:
- IndyBar offices (135 N. Pennsylvania St., Suite 1500)
- Barnes & Thornburg LLP (11 S. Meridian St.)
- Blackwell Burke & Ramsey (111 Monument Cir., Suite 452)
- Coots Henke & Wheeler (255 E. Carmel Dr., Carmel, IN 46032)
- Frost Brown Todd LLC (201 N. Illinois St., Suite 1900)
- Lewis Wagner LLP (501 Indiana Ave., Suite 200)
- Riley Bennett & Egloff LLP (141 E. Washington St., 4th Floor)
Once the clothing drive is finished, we’ll move on to organizing the items and distributing them to the students. Riley Bennett& Egloff LLP has kindly offered their space for storage of all donated dress clothes once the drive is finished. We are partnering with Jos. A. Bank for tailoring services and with Classic Cleaners for dry cleaning services.
The program will conclude in late April 2016 with an event for the students where we will give them their clothes and also provide a session on interview and professionalism tips. We hope to make Suited Up an annual program.
What are you waiting for? Dig through your closets and get to donating!
