This article gives some fantastic suggestions on the most effective places to meet people at an event. I mistake I often would make is sticking too close to the entrance, which often represents the area where people are least confident or prepared to start a conversation. Instead, this article highlights prime connection areas as the end of the bar and near the host. I also appreciated the suggestion for introverts of engaging in "grazing," or making multiple trips to the food area in order to check out of conversations or get another chance at striking up new ones.
