On Saturday, September 20, the IndyBar Networking Committee joined forces with the Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA) Service Committee and sponsored its second "Annual Day of Service". The event brings together attorneys and judges from across the state to engage in hands-on community service projects in their local counties. From cleaning up neighborhoods to harvesting fresh produce for local food shelters, attorney volunteers had the chance to be a part of this growing movement in the Indiana legal community.
In Marion County, the IndyBar Networking members and other volunteers worked at Indy Urban Acres, an eight-acre organic farm that donates 100 percent of the fresh fruits and vegetables harvested to local food pantries though a partnership with Gleaners Food Bank.
Volunteers included the following judges, lawyers and law students from the Indy Attorneys Networking Section: Andrea Ciobanu, Ciobanu Law PC; Chuck Schmal, Woodard Emhardt Moriarty McNett & Henry LLP; The Hon. Tim A. Baker, US District Court Southern District of Indiana; Amber Finley, Ciobanu Law PC; Justin Sorrell, Hill Fulwider PC; Lauren Sorrell, Krieg DeVault LLP; and Alex Van Gorp, IU McKinney. Families of the members also joined, including eager, industrious children. Volunteers cleared an entire field of tomato plants and collected more than 200 pounds of tomatoes. Afterward, the tomatoes were personally delivered to the local food bank.
Volunteers had a great time, worked diligently, established new friendships, created lasting memories and greatly assisted our community with their time, service, and dedication. All volunteers eagerly anticipate next year's service project!
