Executive Committee Minutes

January 3, 2017

  1. Welcome
    1. Attendees: Ammon, Whitney, Stacey, Julianne, Patty, Zach, Allison, Kim, Jessica (via phone), Julianne (via phone)
    2. Absent: Alli, Emily, J.C., Ashley

 

  1. Old Business
    1. New Member Stacey Long
    2. Rolled Off: Anna Kirkman and Diego Wu Min
    3. December CLE was very well attended and had a lot of positive feedback.
    4. Student Representative has accepted a position on the committee.

 

  1. New Business
    1. If anyone has any interest in chairing the communication committee let Ammon know.
    2. Below is a current list of subcommittee members. Let Ammon know if you would like to switch, be added, or roll off.
    3. Scholarship – we discussed plans for our budget to include scholarships for AHLA’s Fundamentals of Health Law conference.
      1. Julianne mentioned that she liked using it to involve younger attorneys in the section.
      2. There was a general consensus that the committee likes the scholarship, but no action was taken.
    4. General discussion of how to better target life sciences members.

 

  1. Committees Goals
    1. Philanthropy
      1. Legal lines set up for May. We will plan on doing another one as well.
      2. Interested in Crooked Creek Food Pantry again, possibly twice this year.
      3. Other option is Coburn Place.
    2. Social
      1.  We discussed our light participation at the social events last year.  
      2. IndyBar would like us to limit the number of social events to 2 per section, and encourages partnering up with other sections.
      3. High level discussion of including other medical professionals/organizations in our events.
      4. Discussed planning “events,” not just social hours.
    3. Education
      1. Committee brainstormed ideas for new CLEs.
      2. It was mentioned that a state level CLE in May recapping the legislative session would be advantageous.
        1. Committee to begin planning early May CLE – Zach to reach out to Hannah Brown.
      3. Other CLEs relating to new federal legislation may be advisable depending on new federal legislation.
      4. It was discussed that partnering with the Insurance committee and/or Government Committee on these CLEs may increase turnout.
      5. Zach to reach out to insurance group and government group to gauge interest.
      6.  MACRA CLE – Will shoot for February 22nd.
        1. Zach and Ammon to complete planning sheet.
