The IndyBar Family Law Section is excited to recognize Hon. Alicia Gooden as the 2020 recipient of the Family Law Section Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize those individuals and/or organizations who have made contributions to the legal profession and the community. Specifically, these recipients have demonstrated a commitment to furthering knowledge of issues affecting families as they relate to laws and policies within the bar and among colleagues and have shown a commitment to furthering the interests of families and the Indianapolis community at large.
Judge Gooden's nominator states, "She has been a champion for the family law bar and has been working on the family court project for years now as access to justice for Marion County families has been one of her top priorities. Despite being appointed to the criminal bench, she has continued to help focus on families. In between her work as Master Commissioner for the Paternity Court and her appointment to the bench, she mediated family law cases. She is a quintessential problem solver and is always open to new ways of helping to aid attorneys in their practice and help families reach peaceful solutions."
Judge Gooden currently serves as a member of the Marion Superior Court Executive Committee and is a judge in the Criminal Division, Court 21. She was elected in 2015, having previously served the court as a master commissioner from 2001 to 2010. She will be the 2022 President of the Indianapolis Bar Association.
