Eleven years after the death of James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, not a penny has gone to any of the beneficiaries of his will. More than a dozen lawsuits related to the estate have been filed since Mr. Brown died on Christmas Day in 2006. Most of these suits involve Mr. Brown’s children, grandchildren, and his widow. Under the will, the bulk of Mr. Brown’s estate was to be given to the I Feel Good Trust, which he set up to distribute scholarhips for children from South Carolina and Georgia. But with the family contesting the will it is uncertain whether those scholarships will ever come to fruition.
