Medicaid Updates and Miller Trusts

This program will discuss the changes in Medicaid rules effective June 1, 2014, particularly as they affect institutionalized individuals and those who receive Medicaid under the Aged and disabled Waiver (which addresses home care and assisted living). The program will also focus on Miller trusts and provide a model trust document to use in cases in which the Medicaid applicant/recipient has income greater than the Medicaid Special Income Level.

About the Speaker
Claire E. Lewis is the founder of the Law Office of Claire E. Lewis where she focuses on the legal needs of older adults. She has more than twenty-five years of experience in the eld of elder law.

Ms. Lewis is a founding member and was the first President of the Indiana chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (IN-NAELA). She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the chapter and is Chair of the Government and Public Aairs Committee. She was also a founding member and the first Chair of the Indiana State Bar Association’s Elder Law Section and currently serves as Chair of the Public Policy and Education Committees. Ms. Lewis serves on the Executive Committees of both the Estate Planning and Administration Section and the Senior Counsel Division of the Indianapolis Bar Association. She also served for six years on the Board of Directors of CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions (formerly the Central Indiana Council on Aging) and was Secretary of the Board during her last two-year term. She currently serves on CICOA’s Public Policy Committee. Ms. Lewis also served for six years on the Board of Directors of the Alzheimer’s Association of Indiana for which she chaired its Mission and Outreach Committee. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation.

Ms. Lewis earned her J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
