The Estate Planning and Administration Section has enjoyed a great first half of the year. We have hosted five of our 11 scheduled CLEs for the 2015 series. We are trying some new things this year, including combining socials with two of our CLEs. On Tuesday, April 21, the Business Law Section joined the Estate Planning and Administration Section to co-host "Exit Planning: A Collaborative Approach." The CLE presentation was held at the Alexander Hotel, followed by a reception with food and drinks for the attendees of the CLE.
We will host a similar Social CLE on November 18, 2015, jointly with the Tax Section, titled "Intersection of Estate and Income Tax Planning", to be held at the IndyBar Education Center (registration available soon). Immediately following the CLE, attendees are invited to stay for a social with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails.
Remember that the IndyBar has a new policy on CLE material: we will provide a link to the materials only and will not be distributing paper versions at the event.
Don't forget to check out our website for the Estate Planning and Administration Section to stay on top of the latest updates. We post minutes from Executive Committee meetings and other newsworthy information. To log in on the website, your username is your email address and your default password is your IndyBar number. We hope to be adding information more regularly in the coming months, but please bear with us while we get up to speed. If you have pictures or notices to post, please contact any executive committee member.
The Estate Planning and Administration Section has established several tactics this year to enable us to offer more activities and relevant information to our members. Please let us know if you have any ideas for these tactics:
- Our Section is blessed with a relatively high account balance and we have several members researching options for the most impactful donation to our own Indianapolis Bar Foundation. Our executive committee has enjoyed learning more about the great work and meaningful impact the Foundation has in our community and we look forward to supporting their good works.
- We are also working with the IndyBar to explore ways to enhance the impact of our Section website. We are requesting articles for posting to the website and have asked our executive committee members to submit materials. We further invite any Estate Planning and Administration Section member to submit relevant articles. You are not required to write an entire article; you may find an interesting post and simply write an introduction. We look forward to distributing valuable information to our Section members and elevating our website into a forum for sharing of best practices and thought leadership.
Our most recent CLE on May 20, 2015, was a much requested Q&A Session with Judge Steven Eichholtz, hosted by Sean Obermeyer of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP. The CLE was our best attended of the year and the Judge thoughtfully responded to many questions from the Section. The Judge discussed his vision for the Court, including creating a more efficient method of filing that is aligned with the filing systems in our other Marion County Courts and that will result in greater efficiency in the calendaring of hearings and due dates.
Please contact any one of the executive committee members with ideas or offerings you would like to see from your Section. We would like to provide a valuable service to our members and welcome your input.
