The Environmental Protection Agency has been investigating and addressing a former lead smelter on the near northside of Indianapolis for many years. The Former American Lead Facility is located at 2102 Hillside Avenue, in Indianapolis, Indiana, 46218. This is in the central part of Indianapolis in the historic Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood. This month, EPA will start digging up and disposing of  lead-contaminated soil in approximately 100 residential yards near the former American Lead facility. Excavated yards will then be backfilled with clean soil. EPA is also seeking public participation regarding the sampling of properties in the American Lead site study area.
