Hello, Appellate Practice Section members.
During the second quarter of 2015, our acclaimed Indiana Appellate Institute held a pair of mock oral arguments in a death penalty case and a civil case. The modest $500 fee to use the Institute helps underwrite scholarships and other valuable IndyBar programs. This service is free for first-time advocates and those representing indigent clients. So far, one mock argument is scheduled for the third quarter, and the Institute can accommodate several additional arguments.
To date, we've scheduled three CLEs for the second half of 2015 and are working on our fourth. On August 5, Jane Dall Wilson of Faegre Baker Daniels will review the recently concluded U.S. Supreme Court term, and she'll preview the forthcoming term.
On September 15, Anna Onaitis Holden, an attorney for the Indiana Court of Appeals, will discuss motions practice in that court (registration coming soon). And on October 27, our annual appellate roundtable will feature Justice Brent Dickson and Judge Rudolph Pyle for a one-hour program and reception to follow (registration coming soon). We also expect to host a CLE, likely in December, on e-filing.
Finally, please join us on August 11 for a ballgame at Victory Field. Thanks to a generous contribution from Barnes & Thornburg, members of the section and their families are invited to an evening of Indians baseball for only $5 per person. The picnic area opens at 5:30, and the game starts at 7:05. Hope to see you there.
