About the speaker:
John L. Krauss, an attorney, mediator, and arbitrator, is director of the Indiana University Public Policy Institute. Additionally, he holds a joint academic appointment as a clinical professor at SPEA and an adjunct professor of law at Indiana University McKinney School of Law-Indianapolis. He teaches mediation, dispute resolution, law and public policy, and urban management. Krauss is also director of the Indiana Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. He served as director of the Kernan/Shepard Indiana Local Government Reform Commission. He has served as a Special Administrative Law Judge for the Indiana Attorney General and as a Mediator in Judicial Mandate Disputes for the Indiana Supreme Court. Krauss is active in the dispute resolution field and serves on US Postal Service, FINRA, TSA, and AAA ADR panels.
He is member of the Roster of Mediators for the U.S. Postal Service, Panel of External Mediators for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Roster of Neutrals for the Internal Revenue Service - Office for Appeals, Commercial Panel of Mediators and Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association. He is a Certified Mediator for Education Disputes by the Justice Center of Atlanta, Public Arbitrator for the FINRA Dispute Resolution Board of Arbitrators, and Professional Mediator, Medicare Beneficiary Complaint Mediation Program. He is a Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution.
Krauss holds leadership positions with a diverse array of civic and corporate organizations, including the Vice President, Board of Trustees for the Citizens Energy Group Utility, Member, Indiana Education Employment Relations Board, Life Director, Tourism for Tomorrow, Inc., Board of Advisors President Benjamin Harrison Foundation, Board of Advisors Central Indiana Land Trust, Trustee and Past Vice Chair of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and Past Chair of Indiana Supreme Court Commission on Continuing Legal Education.
Krauss is also an accomplished photographer who travels the world to find new subjects. Prior to joining SPEA, Krauss served as deputy mayor of Indianapolis (1982-1991). Krauss received his BA in political science from Colorado College in Colorado Springs and his JD from Indiana University School of Law.
