Melissa Avery is of counsel with the law firm Broyles Kight & Ricafort PC. She has been practicing family law for 20 years and has distinguished herself both locally and nationally as a premier family law attorney. Melissa has served a wide range of clients throughout central Indiana in matters involving dissolution of marriage, high net worth divorce, custody, visitation, child support, alimony, business valuation in divorce, property division, divorce and retirement benefits, adoption law, paternity, and prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.

Melissa provides her clients with knowledgeable and compassionate advice. She has discreetly resolved many complex cases involving businesses and other high-value assets and has been widely recognized for her family law accomplishments. She is trained as a mediator, parenting coordinator and collaborative professional.She is a certified family law specialist (Indiana Independent Certifying Organization), a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Melissa has been listed as an Indiana Super Lawyer since 2005 and as one of Indiana’s Top 25 Female Lawyers since 2007 by Law and Politics Magazine. She served as the American Bar Association Family Law Section CLE Co-Chair from 2011 to 2014, on the Section Council from 2005 to 2014 and chaired the Marital Property Committee from 2007 to 2010. She currently serves as the Sponsorship Committee Co-Chair and has been nominated to be the Section’s Secretary for 2015-2016. Melissa is also currently a member of the Board of Governors of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and serves on the Webinar and the Impact of Divorce on Special Needs Children Committees. She is past chair of the Indiana State Bar Association Family Law Section Chair and was a member of the Board of Governors from 2009 to 2011.
