Hello, everyone! My name is Christine Douglas and I’m serving as the 2015 ADR Section Chair. Our focus this year is on YOU! We want to bring programs and resources that help both you and your practice grow. The first thing we wanted to accomplish was to make your mediation practices more visible to IndyBar members. To do this, we will be featuring two mediators from our section on our webpage every two weeks in a “Meet the Mediator” column. If you are interested in being featured, please submit a brief summary that you would like posted to Rachel Beachy. We would like for you to have more visibility to the community as well and we specifically want our website to be available to the public. Although our webpage is currently limited to IndyBar members, the IndyBar is going through a website renovation and we are working with them to see if our section could have limited public access so our members come up on web searches for mediators. We will keep you posted as this develops.

Our first CLE presentation “Insight from the Experts: Civil Mediation Strategies from the Pros” is scheduled for this Thursday, April 16 at noon. This one-hour program features Lee Christie of Cline Farrell Christie & Lee PC, Norris Cunningham of Hall Render Killian Heath & Lyman PC, Miriam Rich of Rich Legal Services and Sally Zweig of Katz & Korin PC. It will be packed with valuable insight that you will want for your mediation tool belt. We will offer three additional CLEs throughout the year, so keep your eyes open for emails and mailers for more details.

For the last several years we have worked with Paternity Court to host a Mediation Day in the fall. This program has been so successful that we will be adding a Mediation Day in May. Mark your calendars for May 22, 2015 if you’d like to participate. It’s an easy way to satisfy your pro bono requirement.  For civil mediators, we are working with the civil courts to host a Mediation Day in the fall and more information will be coming.

We have also added two new members to the Executive Committee: Miriam Rich of Rich Legal Services and Anthony Eleftheri of Lewis Wagner LLP. Both Miriam and Anthony are civil mediators and we are grateful for their involvement in programming this year!

Don’t forget to check out our webpage. We are constantly adding articles that pertain to mediation skills and practice development. It’s a fast and easy way to catch up on what is going on in our section. Of course, if you ever have ideas, suggestions or want to get more involved in the section, please let me know.
