Paralegal Committee
Mission
The purpose of the Paralegal Committee is to promote the objectives of the Association within the paralegal field. The Committee studies and reports upon the proposed, necessary and desirable Federal and State legislation; encourages members of the Association interested in the issues of the paralegal profession throughout Indiana to meet and confer upon their various issues through this committee; provides a communications network, promotes the legal education of members through the sponsoring of meetings, institutes and conferences and by preparing and publishing legal writings in the paralegal field.

Why Join a Bar Association?
Paralegals who accomplish more challenging or complex tasks, accept increased responsibility and improve their capabilities are more valuable to their attorneys. Value converts to dollars. Valued members of the legal team are more likely to receive better assignments and better compensation from their employers.
Below are just a few reasons YOU should pursue Bar Association involvement. As paralegals, we:
- Assist attorneys in understanding paralegal qualifications and education that qualifies them to perform legally substantive tasks
- Assist and enable attorneys to understand the complex legal tasks that paralegals are capable of performing
- Assist attorneys in better utilization of paralegals as respected members of the legal team
- Have a voice in decisions that affect the paralegal profession
- Serve on Bar Association committees with attorneys and maximize networking opportunities
- Join Bar Association sections and divisions
- Receive equivalent benefits of membership as those provided to other members of the Bar Association
- Contribute to Bar Association publications on issues such as paralegal tasks and responsibilities, profitability of paralegals, increased productivity through proper paralegal utilization, and ethical responsibilities of attorneys concerning paralegals
- Are consulted on matters which directly affect utilization of paralegals in the delivery of quality legal services
- Can obtain reduced registration fees to attend Bar Association-sponsored CLE, functions and meetings
- Are encouraged to participate in activities relating to paralegal regulation
- Offers increased credibility to paralegals and is viewed as a commitment to the legal profession
- Provides increased exposure through the Job Bank and opportunities for attorneys to locate and recruit qualified paralegals
- Offers paralegals the opportunity to voice opinions pertaining to the role of paralegals as valued members of the Bar
- Plan and conduct seminars for paralegals and attorneys that promote paralegal utilization in various practice areas and/or regarding ethics
- Participate in pro bono and community activities supported by the Bar Association, such as Law Day, Ask A Lawyer, or Bears on Patrol
- Attend, network and mingle with attorneys at Bar Association social events
- Promote paralegal awards
