The Indianapolis Bar Association Health Care & Life Sciences Section has assembled a group of expert in-house counsel and private practitioners in the healthcare and life sciences field for a half-day seminar focusing on fraud & abuse, government investigations, and regulated research. Each session will feature a private practitioner and an in-house counsel with deep experience in their respective fields and offer practical insights into cutting edge areas of healthcare and life sciences law.
This program offers 4 hours of General CLE credit, including 1.5 Ethics, plus the opportunity to network with other healthcare and life sciences practitioners following the event.

Could You Be Dealing with Regulated Research and Not Know It? Regulated Research, Ethics, and FDA Basics: A Primer
Speakers: Amy Judge-Prein, Counsel, Faegre Baker Daniels LLP; Mark Lange, Assistant General Counsel, Eli Lilly and Company
This seminar will explain the universe of regulated human research, focusing on research regulated by the FDA. It will discuss the ethical principles behind regulation of research, and it will describe basics of FDA regulations governing research. Attendees will leave with an understanding of the complexities surrounding research and with a better sense of which research is regulated by the FDA.

Healthcare Fraud & Abuse – Understanding the Current Landscape -
Speakers: Sarah Cotterill, General Counsel, American Health Network; Steve Pratt, Shareholder, Hall Render Killian Heath & Lyman
This session will include a high-level overview of Stark and the Anti-Kickback Statutes, a discussion around the government’s increased emphasis on fraud, and an overview of recent enforcement cases, including Tuomey and Halifax.
3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Investigations for Life Sciences Companies: What to Do When the Government Knocks
Speakers: Tom Beimers, Counsel, Faegre Baker Daniels LLP; Brian Danahy, Compliance Program Manager, Zimmer
This seminar will explain the basics of government investigations. Attendees will leave with an understanding of investigation basics and with a better sense of how to prepare for them.
